I was walking past a new building in Goleta just last week. Its fresh paint and clean windows caught my eye. I wondered about the lives that would begin inside those walls. On Friday, September 4th, that building will officially become home. The Housing Authority will celebrate the opening of Patterson Point. It’s a new permanent supportive housing community at 80 North Patterson Avenue. The ribbon cutting starts at 10 a.m.
Community members and partners are invited to attend. They’ll commemorate this important development together. It will provide stable housing for individuals experiencing homelessness. It also offers vital supportive services. Scheduled speakers include Congressman Salud Carbajal and Assemblymember Gregg Hart. Santa Barbara County Supervisor Laura Capps will also speak. Representatives from Senator Monique Limón’s office will be there too.
Most importantly, Patterson Point residents will share their own stories. They’ll talk about the impact this housing has on their lives. Bernie Baggarly is the public information coordinator for HASBARCO. He spoke about the project’s significance. “This development will provide residents with a place to call home,” Baggarly said. He emphasized it also offers “the resources they need to thrive.”
The building consists of studio apartments. They are designed to be safe and stable for formerly homeless individuals. Supportive amenities help residents maintain their housing long-term. The community includes:
